Historic Roots Fuel Asheville’s Vibrant Art Scene

In Asheville, our artistic heritage runs deep, rooted in the pioneering spirit of institutions like Black Mountain College—an experimental institution that became a crucible for avant-garde thought and artistic expression in the early 20th century, and boasted such luminaries amongst its faculty and alumni as Josef Albers, Buckminster Fuller, and Merce Cunningham. Today, Asheville's art scene teems with fine artists, mountain crafters, folk artists, numerous art galleries and performing arts venues, and an array of art events and artsy neighborhoods.
