Wonder Woman

The Mural:

39 Banks Avenue, the future site of Harvest Pizzeria, features “Wonder Woman” a collaborative mural by artists Dustin Spagnola and Megan Kelly. Representing Dustin’s love for the narrative art of comic books, the Wonder Woman pictured here was inspired by the 2017 American superhero movie based on the DC Comics character. Dustin’s work is reminiscent of both Baroque portraiture and pop-art coming together in a harmonious exploration of the human form, light and popular culture.  

Adorning the background and serving as a unifying compositional element is the work of artist Megan Kelly. Megan is a painter and muralist whose mandala-like circles can be found all over Asheville bringing beauty, texture, and color to both indoor and outdoor spaces.

Dustin Spagnola is a skilled painter and muralist whose work can be found in NYC, Miami, Atlanta, New Orleans, Detroit, D.C., Nepal, Japan, and his home city of Asheville. With the ability to inspire, affect someone emotionally, and change people’s perspective, Dustin acknowledges great responsibility as an artist working in the public realm. For him, public art is a cultural asset that activates a space, causing people to notice and take better care of often overlooked places.

Born in Asheville, NC, Megan Kelly’s work is a unique way of giving back to her community while leaving a mark on the place she calls home.  Viewing her process as meditative and intimate, Megan translates daily experience and emotion into color and form. Made to be “unapologetically attractive," her ornate shapes seek to bring pleasure, lightness and joy to viewers.
